A day that started with a threat of very high winds ends in success for the Black Knights Marching Band. In their final regular season performance the Black Knights scored 1st place in Class III competition. They also took away the caption awards for Outstanding General Effect, Outstanding Marching, Outstanding Percussion, and Outstanding Music.
The weather was definitely a concern this weekend. There was even speculation about whether the Norwalk show would be held outdoors. The whole MAC conference was interested because Norwalk is the final regulary season performance before MAC finals at Kennedy stadium in Bridgeport. Norwalk's show is very well attended and a great indicator for bands of how far they've come and what last minute changes they can make for finals.
The good news is that the rain mostly held off. It was cold and gusty - tricky conditions especially for the color guard - but nothing that these now veteran performers couldn't handle. With resolve and energy the more than 20 bands in attendance gave us their all.
Stamford High faced off against most of their Class III rivals - East Ramapo, Killingly, Bethel, and Westhill High Schools - with only Fitch not in attendance. With even more improvements to their music and drill, as well as the confidence and pride in their hard work, the Black Knights achieved the desired result.
A special mention and kudos to our outstanding color guard. Wind is not a friend to the color guard. It's not easy throwing flags and rifles in the air in 50 mph wind gusts. But our guard stuck together, executed their show well, and achieved their best performance of the season - missing 1st place color guard in Class III by only 3/10 of a point!
The Black Knights have come a long way this season. Only one more show to go. Be there for the Finals to root for the Black Knights!
