A beautiful warm evening.
Over 1000 visitors.
6 great bands in performance.
Our graduating seniors and our faithful alumni.
Our volunteers and community supporters.
What a fantastic show!
Knight Music 2007, the 8th annual Knight Music, was all about music, marching, and fun. It was about 6 great bands showing off the weeks and weeks of hard work that have gone into their shows. It was about the community getting to see talented hard working kids doing something great. It was about visitors able to enjoy high quality shows with full marching bands, pit players, and color guards. And it was about a little unexpected excitement.
It was also about competition. Marching Bands competing for points against each other, but more importantly, against themselves. Looking to make improvements at this season midpoint of the Musical Arts Conference marching band season. Looking to get feedback from the judges on what their show needs to make it truly great, and, who knows, maybe even be 2007 class champions!
If you were there you know what I'm talking about. Knight Music 2007 was a smash.
It all started at 6:00 am Saturday morning. Our volunteers got to work early. They prepped the site, blocked off streets and parking, started bringing in food, put out direction signs around town. And as the day got "mid summer" hot, the work got heavy. By the time our first band from Somers High School arrived we were ready. And when our next two bands – Westhill (another home town school) and Brien McMahon arrived – we were pumped.
And when our next band – the Norwalk High Marching Bears – arrived…
Well, that's right about when we had the car fire. It was an unfortunate event. One of our judges car suffered major damage. But no one was hurt. Our final arriving bands were all successfully diverted and arrived in good shape and ready to go. Our show was delayed by 15 minutes, but no one was hurt and the event continued as planned. A special thanks to the judging staff for working through this event. And kudos to all the volunteers at Knight Music who were able to bring this show off safely and with hardly a hitch.
Once the bands got going the crowd started to swell. It looked like the whole side of the stadium was full by intermission. Great food was served. Fine shows were performed. All under a clear warm sky. When the final two class V bands (the West Milford Highlanders, and the Norwalk Marching Bears) performed the crowds were treated to two truly big bands with very different styles and shows.
And then of course it was our turn.
The Black Knights marching band alumni (one from 1945!) led the Stamford High Black Knights to the field to perform in exhibition. They performed their 2007 show – The Tell-Tale Heart. And I'll say – as a somewhat biased observer to be sure – that this was their finest performance of the season. They put on a great show for the home crowd.
As our show wound down – we honored our graduating seniors.
We'll miss them and wish them well. They have made this band proud, and we know they'll go on to great schools and great accomplishments in life.
And finally, awards, trophies, and time for the Stamford High Black Knight Marching Band to say farewell to our 8th annual home show. Our show may be over, but I know it will never be forgotten by those who performed, volunteered, or even just attended.
We'll see you next year at Knight Music 2008!!!
